Compare and Contrast

 Take notes to on the following Haiti episode of Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations. Post your answers to your individual student blog by the end of Saturday (I want to wake up and respond to these on Sunday, if not earlier).

1. What is one cultural norm or belief that Bourdain explores in this episode that compares to your Essay 3 subject-culture? Explain the norm/belief and some of the details from both the show and your subject-culture.

2. What is one cultural norm or belief Bourdain explores in this episode that contrasts with your Essay 3 subject-culture? Again, explain the difference.

Both of these questions are meant to help you:

• Flesh out, or develop, your understanding of a cultural norm or belief of your subject-culture: what it is and why your advice helps the reader enter that culture.

• Details, details, details. Your job as the writer is to provide readers with illustrations of your culture, so that we can see the culture in our minds. So, these visualizations remind you to describe your subject-culture more clearly.

• Also, look at the photos of "where children sleep" from across the globe. What do these bedrooms imply about normal conditions in these countries? What do their bedrooms imply about cultural beliefs for that country?
